The scandal of spiritual direction is the underlying assumption that the Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, Anointed Savior, Living Spirit (whatever language that you use) takes a particular interest in individuals, and honors each of us with a path we can discover as we start to pay attention to our own unique spiritual lives. That means that though I have a tradition that I follow and draw wisdom from, I understand that each person’s encounter with God will be their own unique journey. The conventions of your own faith tradition may be a source of inspiration, or they may be a hindrance that you choose to relinquish along the way. No judgments. No expectations. No one right way to listen for God’s activity in your life. That’s what makes spiritual direction such a sacred conversation! Anything and everything may be possible.
Intrigued? Let’s see if we are a good fit to work together! Now, that can happen from anywhere. (Zoom, Facetime) If I’m not the right fit for you, I can suggest some other sources for finding a director. The ability to connect is crucial in spiritual direction. It is less about technique (though there are a number of tools in my toolbox) and more about having a partner that will assist you in your own listening to God.
Special Thoughts For Clergy
I have benefited so much from those wise pastors who guided me in the early years of my ministry that I want to offer the same “lessons learned” to pastors who might be either inspired by or learn what not to do from my years of experience. And I have enjoyed the privilege of walking the walk with seminary interns for many years. My heart goes out to pastors. Clergy are doing hard, hard work in today’s world. Going it alone is leading to health concerns, both mental and physical. You don’t have to be on your own in this job – though pastors sometimes don’t know exactly where to turn. If I can help by connecting with you, or offer help in getting connected to other clergy in your own area, please let me know.
FAQ
How much does spiritual direction/coaching cost?
For individuals seeking spiritual direction, clergy coaching or both, the first appointment is free. God is calling me to be a minister to those who minister. Therefore, I want to hear from you and know your story because I am leaning into that role mid-life and mid-career! If you are intentionally seeking a spiritual director or clergy coach, together we need to determine if the fit is appropriate. You shouldn’t have to pay to find that out.
After that initial meeting,
My hourly rate for spiritual direction is $80/hour.
My hourly rate for clergy coaching is $150/hour. (And it includes the practice of spiritual direction.)
Sliding scale available – just ask!
What is the time difference between spiritual direction and clergy coaching?
Spiritual Direction is typically offered on a month to month basis. It is different from emotionally therapeutic ministries in that you are doing the spiritual heavy lifting – I would be there to simply help you hear what you’ve already been working on with God.
Clergy coaching can be on more of an “as needed” basis. Can be an added benefit for new clergy, clergy struggling with conflict, or those seeking to discern a new call.
